Hessian Gastronomy

Typical dishes in Hesse depend on the season as not all vegetables are available all year long.
Along with the already named beer comes the Applewine thinking about typical Hessian drinks.
It's a wine made out of apple drunk a lot in the area.
A really popular dish in Hesse is the Handkäs. It's made out of curd cheese put into a mixture of salt and soda.
Also really know is the Grüne Soße, in eng. green sauce. It's normally served with potatoes in their skin.
This cold sauce is made of different herbs, mayonnaise, oil, vinegar, lemon, salt and pepper.
Similar to the Handkäs but a bit creamier is the Spundekäs. It consists of cream cheese and curd cheese meshed up with salt, pepper and paprika. You can eat it with breat or meat.
Hessian desserts are Kreppel (bismarcks), baking tray cakes with different fillings and potato pancakes served with apple puree.
